Anastassia, you worked for a long time with the data here and you recently saw the Keston collection at Baylor University, which has a lot of religious samizdat materials. What was most surprising for you to see there?
Baptist samizdat at the Keston archive
What surprised me most was the abundant evidence for a well developed samizdat publishing network in the Baptist community in the
USSR. This never slowed down, even when members of the samizdat publishing house "Khristianin" would get arrested. The publishing network served as the main channel for communication between reform Baptists who were geographically dispersed throughout the Soviet Union. The Keston Collection has examples of samizdat periodicals, leaflets, and open letters.
